The LBTEK Quick Liquid Crystal Variable Retarder (QLCVR) is based on nematic liquid crystal and ITO glass materials, constructed with an antiparallel liquid crystal cell, housed in a mechanical casing with attached wiring. Under the influence of polyimide layer rubbing alignment, the fast-axis orientation of its liquid crystal molecules remains uniform across the entire component plane. By applying an external AC voltage (DC voltage not allowed), the liquid crystal variable retarder achieves flexible adjustment of the retardation. Based on its characteristics of adjustable retardation, the LBTEK Liquid Crystal Variable Retarder has two typical applications: 1. When used as a polarization modulator, the polarization direction of the incident linearly polarized light should be at a 45° angle to the fast axis of the liquid crystal variable retarder to achieve the widest adjustment range. 2. When used as a pure phase retarder, the polarization direction of the incident linearly polarized light should be at a 0° angle to the fast axis of the liquid crystal variable retarder. The retardation adjustment does not rely on mechanical components, ensuring broad spectral applicability, a wide operating temperature range, and excellent retardation uniformity. Compared to conventional liquid crystal variable retarders, the quick liquid crystal variable retarder significantly improves response speed. LBTEK offers standard QLCVR products with the operating wavelengths of λ of 400-700 nm, 700-1100 nm, and 1100-1700 nm. The clear aperture options include Ø10 mm and Ø20 mm, and the retardation modulation range can be selected as half-wave, full-wave, or multi-wave. The LBTEK 1-inch Half-Wave Quick Liquid Crystal Variable Retarder is coated with corresponding anti-reflection coatings for the operating wavelength ranges of 400-700 nm, 700-1100 nm, or 1100-1700 nm. Under the control of an external AC voltage (DC voltage not allowed), it can achieve flexible adjustment of retardation between approximately 100 nm and λ/2. With a clear aperture of Ø10 mm, it is mounted in a mechanical housing with attached wiring. The mechanical housing is compatible with Ø1-inch optical component mounts and is marked with the fast axis direction of the liquid crystal variable retarder for convenient optical path alignment by users.
