Product Description
  • Material: N-BK7
  • Working Wavelength: 350 nm-2.0 μm
  • Application: Image rotation, inversion or retroreflection
LBTEK dove prisms are made of N-BK7 glass. Depending on the prism's rotation angle and the light incident surface, they can rotate, invert, or retroreflect an image. With a base angle of 45°, a dove prism can be considered a right-angle prism with the extra right-angle portion removed. This reduces the prism's weight and reduces internal reflections of stray light. When used for image rotation or inversion, the entrance and exit surfaces of the dove prism are not perpendicular to the optical axis, but the directions of the exiting and incident light remain unchanged. Due to the large angle of incidence, the light beam undergoes total internal reflection at the prism's base, so the internal transmittance of the dove prism is limited only by the prism's absorptivity. When the dove prism is rotated by an angle of θ about the optical axis, the exiting image rotates by an angle of 2θ in the same direction. If the incident light entering the dove prism is a converging beam, astigmatism will be introduced, affecting image quality. Therefore, collimated beam entry is recommended. Furthermore, since the incident light beam undergoes total internal reflection when passing through a Dove prism, a phase difference occurs between the s-wave and the p-wave, affecting the polarization state of the transmitted light beam. LBTEK offers three types of Dove prisms with side lengths of 5 mm, 10 mm, and 15 mm. LBTEK also offers a variety of custom services.
