Holographic optical elements refer to components fabricated using holographic methods (including computer-generated holography) that can perform functions such as collimation, focusing, beam splitting, imaging, beam deflection, and beam scanning. Since they are based on the principles of light diffraction and interference, holographic optical elements are also known as diffractive elements. In optical information processing, holographic gratings can also serve as filters for applications like image subtraction and edge enhancement. This experiment is based on the Mach-Zehnder interferometer setup, where one-dimensional or two-dimensional holographic grating structures are obtained on holographic plates by adjusting the beam intersection angle and rotating the plates for multiple exposures.

This experiment adopts a Mach-Zehnder interferometric optical path to conduct the holographic grating preparation experiment. By utilizing the adjustable angle between the two beams in the interferometric optical path and the multiple recording capability of holography, the fabrication of two-dimensional holographic gratings with different grating constants was achieved. In traditional holography and holographic grating fabrication teaching experiments, appropriately expanding the content through simple methods can not only enrich the teaching experiment content and enhance students' interest, but also help broaden students' professional knowledge and familiarize them with research topics in related fields.
