The LBTEK shearing interferometer consists of a 45°-positioned wedge prism and an observation plate, where the wedge prism is made of UV-grade fused silica, and the observation plate is a scattering plate with a reference line engraved in the center. The wedge angle of each prism is optimized for the measurable beam size, and the specific angles can be found in the specifications. The scattering plate is used to observe the interference fringes generated by the Fresnel reflections from the front and rear surfaces of the wedge prism. The fringe intensity is maximized when the polarization direction of the incident beam is perpendicular to the plane of incidence (the plane formed by the incident ray and the normal of the shearing plate). Note that interference fringes can only be observed if the coherence length of the laser beam is greater than the optical path difference (OPD) introduced by the wedge prism. The approximate OPD (ΔOPL) generated by the wedge prism can be found in the specifications of each product. The LBTEK shearing interferometer can be used for qualitative analysis of beam collimation. The LBTEK shearing interferometer consists of a circular wedge prism placed at 45° and an observation plate, which can qualitatively analyze the collimation of the light beam. Depending on the shearing plate, it is divided into four models suitable for beam diameters of 1 mm-3 mm, 2.5 mm-5 mm, 5 mm-10 mm, and 10 mm-25.4 mm. Note: Due to the thicker optical elements of the TSI100 and TSI254 shearing interferometers, their rear surfaces protrude beyond the mounting substrate plane. Therefore, when installing or removing the shearing plate, please move it smoothly along the axial direction to avoid collisions with adjacent components. Especially when the system is already equipped with a TSICP/TSICP-SM1 cage adapter plate, it is recommended to remove peripheral components before operating the shearing plate assembly.

The wedge angle of the wedge prism used in LBTEK's shearing plates has been optimized for different beam diameters. Specific wedge angle values can be found in the parameters below. The shear plates feature a magnetic mounting design, simplifying the replacement process and enabling quick changes. Based on applicable beam diameters, the shearing plates are categorized into four models: 1 mm-3 mm, 2.5 mm-5 mm, 5 mm-10 mm, and 10 mm-25.4 mm. The shear interferometer magnification observation system provided by LBTEK can enlarge the interference fringes of small-aperture beams, facilitating the evaluation of the beam's collimation. LBTEK also offers the mounting plate for this magnification observation system separately. The mounting plate features SM1 internal threads, making it compatible with all LBTEK components that have SM1 threading.
