LBTEK Planar Lens is a diffractive optical element that achieves beam convergence or divergence based on the polarization state of the incident light. The handedness of the output beam's polarization state is opposite to that of the input beam. By controlling the polarization state of the incident light, the energy distributions of both the converging and diverging spot can be modulated. Therefore, compared with conventional lenses, the planar lens can function as either a converging lens or a diverging lens. The planar lens is a planar-structured diffractive element whose diffraction angle satisfies sin θ = λ/p, where θ is the diffraction angle, λ is the design wavelength, and p is the period in the radial direction. The continuously varying periodic structure gives the planar lens its aberration-free property: all light passing through the clear aperture is diffracted at different radial positions according to the local period, enabling all rays to converge precisely to the same point. The focal length of the planar lens is primarily determined by its design wavelength, clear aperture, and diffraction period. LBTEK offers standard planar lenses with a clear aperture of Ø20 mm, design wavelengths of 532 nm and 633 nm, and focal lengths of 50 mm, 75 mm, and 100 mm. In addition to standard products, LBTEK provides various customization services, including custom substrates, dimensions, design wavelengths, and focal lengths. Planar Lens
  • Optical Element Material: Liquid Crystal Polymer/N-BK7 Window
  • Clear Aperture: Ø20.0 mm
  • Planar Structure, Diffractive Element, Aberration-Free

LBTEK Planar Lens is fabricated on an N-BK7 window with a double-layer substrate, providing uniform retardance across the entire clear aperture, equal to 1/2 of the operating wavelength. LBTEK can customize planar lenses with other specific wavelengths, focal lengths, and dimensions.
