LBTEK Planar Cylindrical Lens (PB Cylindrical Lens, PBCL) is fabricated on N-BK7 glass substrates with liquid crystal polymer (LCP) material, featuring a sandwich structure consisting of upper and lower glass substrates with an LCP functional layer in between. In the LCP layer, the fast-axis orientation of the liquid crystal molecules varies continuously along the x-axis with a gradually decreasing period, and the device exhibits a uniform λ/2 retardance across the entire aperture, making it a single-wavelength device. The planar cylindrical lens possesses polarization-dependent optical properties; by controlling the polarization state of the incident light, the energy distribution of the converging and diverging spots can be modulated. Therefore, compared with conventional cylindrical lenses, the planar cylindrical lens can function as both a converging lens and a diverging lens. As a diffractive element with a planar structure, its diffraction angle satisfies sin θ = λ/p, where θ is the diffraction angle, λ is the design wavelength, and p is the period along the radial direction. The continuously varying periodic structure renders the planar cylindrical lens aberration-free — all rays passing through the clear aperture are diffracted at different periodic positions along the x-axis, such that rays along the same x-axis line converge precisely to the same position. The resulting focal spot forms a vertical line perpendicular to the x-axis, with a length equal to the diameter of the original beam spot. LBTEK offers standard planar cylindrical lenses with a clear aperture of Ø21.5 mm, design wavelengths of 532 nm, 633 nm, and 1064 nm, and focal lengths of 50 mm and 100 mm. In addition to standard products, LBTEK also supports flexible customization of specifications. For specific customization requirements, please contact LBTEK Technical Support.

Planar Cylindrical Lens
  • Optical Element Material: N-BK7 / Liquid Crystal Polymer
  • Clear Aperture: Ø21.5 mm
  • Planar Structure, Diffractive Element, Aberration-free

LBTEK Planar Cylindrical Lens can converge or diverge a beam in a single direction. The diffraction effect is optimized for single-wavelength operation, with a uniform half-wave retardance across the entire clear aperture and is aberration-free. It is fabricated on an N-BK7 window with a double-layer substrate and has a total thickness of 3.2 mm. LBTEK can customize planar cylindrical lenses with other specific wavelengths, focal lengths, and dimensions.
