The LBTEK Liquid Crystal Polarization Rotator (LCPR) is fabricated based on a Liquid Crystal Variable Retarder (LCVR) and a polymer true zero-order Quarter-Wave Plate (QWP), mounted in a mechanical housing with attached wiring. The incident linearly polarized light enters from the LCVR end, with its polarization direction aligned according to the crosshair marking on the housing, forming a ±45° angle with the fast axis of the LCVR. The fast axis of the LCVR is oriented at 45° relative to the fast axis of the rear QWP. By applying an external AC voltage to the LCVR, its retardation is altered, thereby changing the ellipticity of the emergent light. The QWP then converts elliptically polarized light of varying ellipticity into linearly polarized light with different polarization directions, achieving the polarization direction rotation of the emergent linearly polarized light. The LBTEK Liquid Crystal Polarization Rotator enables continuous polarization direction rotation of the incident linearly polarized light over 180° without relying on mechanical structures, while maintaining the emergent light's energy unchanged. The extinction ratio of the emergent linearly polarized light can exceed 1000:1. LBTEK offers standard LCPR products with an operating wavelength of 635 nm, compatible with the LCVRC-2K25 voltage controller designed for LCVRs. Additionally, LBTEK supports flexible customization of parameters to meet diverse application needs.

  • Continuous polarization direction rotation of the incident linearly polarized light over 180°
  • Extinction ratio of emergent linearly polarized light up to >1000:1

The LBTEK Liquid Crystal Polarization Rotator is coated with anti-reflection coatings of the 400-700 nm wavelength range on both sides . Under the control of an external AC voltage, it can continuously rotate the polarization direction of incident linearly polarized light by 180°, with an extinction ratio of >1000:1 for the emergent light. It features a clear aperture of Ø10 mm, mounted in a mechanical housing with attached wiring, The housing is compatible with Ø1-inch optical component mounts. The polarization direction of the incident light is marked on the rotator's housing. Each rotator comes with a test report, which includes a "voltage-rotation angle" curve and reference table for incident alignment adjustment.
