LBTEK Spiral Phase Plate is a diffractive optical element that modulates the beam phase by varying the material height along the azimuthal direction, thereby generating vortex beams. When an incident plane wave passes through the spiral phase plate, it produces a vortex beam with a helical phase wavefront—the output beam propagates helically along the optical axis, resulting in destructive interference at the optical axis and forming a doughnut-shaped intensity distribution with a central null. The spiral phase plate offers advantages including high efficiency and stability, ease of operation, and high LIDT. It has been widely applied in various fields such as optical tweezers, high-resolution microscopy, information processing, and surface profilometry. Compared to liquid crystal polymers, UVFS exhibits low absorption characteristics, making it more compatible with UV wavelength applications. LBTEK offers standard spiral phase plates with operating wavelengths of 355 nm, 532 nm, and 1064 nm, with topological charge m available in 1 and 2. Custom specifications are also available—please contact LBTEK Technical Support for details.

Spiral Phase Plates, m = 1
  • JGS1 UVFS Substrate
  • Clear Aperture: 9 × 9 mm
  • Topological Charge m: 1

LBTEK Spiral Phase Plate is fabricated from JGS1 UVFS using a surface relief process, forming a spiral stepped structure that generates vortex beams with helical phase wavefronts. The standard spiral phase plate features a clear aperture of 9 × 9 mm and is housed in a 1-inch mechanical housing. The housing surface is engraved with the part number. Unless otherwise specified, the engraved side is generally the recommended beam incident surface, facilitating identification during alignment.
